I can relate to Yukata; feeling like the odd one out as a little kid hurts so much. He handled himself just fine I made a scene at my father's house as a little kid. My parents never married when I was little he never visited until I was like 7. My mom told me to go spend some time at his house for the school holiday. He remarried and I met my half sisters and being in that house made me feel so bad. I could not sleep I asked to go home early. My aunt and mom where so upset with me. I ruined their plans and it was another 10 years before I saw that man again. I never set foot in his house ever again.
I feel like his parents could have done more to make him feel welcome and they should have had a conversation with their son before hand and also kept him in line. Those formative experiences stay with you. I hope they apologized to him.
