Hexagon CAD is the bedrock of Sonoma County’s wildfire response
Every year, Sonoma County, California, known for its lush green valleys and vineyards, braces for deadly, destructive and unpredictable wildfires, sometimes fueled by winds raging up to 80 mph.
Sonoma County Fire District Fire Chief Ron Busch said, “More than 50% of the Sonoma County Fire District had burned off in wildland fires since 2017. When you have 80 mph winds blowing through the Sonoma County, it’s not something that you’re going to actually get a fire engine in front of.”
Handling the flood of 911 calls sparked by these fires, as well as the influx of everyday medical and emergency calls, are the men and women of Redwood Empire Communications Authority (REDCOM) Dispatch, which supports dozens of area agencies. These people, and the technology they rely on, ensure fast, coordinated responses when every second counts.
Powering those responses is Hexagon’s computer-aided dispatch (CAD) solution.
Said REDCOM Communications Director Ken Reese, “The Hexagon technology is, in my opinion, is probably the Cadillac of CAD systems. You’re getting better response times and faster patient care, faster response times to fires and things of that nature.”
Hexagon’s CAD is the bedrock of Sonoma’s fire response, seamlessly integrating with additional solutions that allow first responders to identify and respond to wildfires more quickly and help people find their way to safety.
“We use the Hexagon CAD for everything…” said REDCOM Executive Director Evonne Stevens. “Everything that we do, we’re trying to make things faster and more automated…”
