EPB: ‘Hexagon is the foundation of our networks’

Longtime Hexagon customer EPB is the municipal power provider for the city of Chattanooga, known as “Gig City,” due to having “the world’s fastest internet.” EPB provides a FTTH network for the same 600 square miles it serves with its electric grid. It first offered its customers speeds of 30 Mbps. Now, that has increased to 25 Gigs.

The relationship between EPB and Hexagon goes back to the 1980s. EPB now uses HxGN NetWorks Core and HxGN NetWorks Comms, Hexagon’s advanced telecommunications GIS.

“We have a real good relationship with Hexagon,” said EPB Business Systems Engineer Jason Sauls. “The folks at Hexagon are very responsive to requests we make and issues that we may have. Hexagon is the foundation of our networks, whether it be on the fiber or the electric side. The connectivity that's provided within those models in the NetWorks product is what's transitioned to the other systems, whether it's the outage management system, demand management or the provisioning systems for the fiber customers. Everything really begins with the Hexagon products.
